Vietnam reports 130K new COVID-19 cases Tuesday, Electronic vaccine passports will be issued nationwide

Vietnamese health officials reported Tuesday an additional 130,735 new cases of COVID-19 in 62 provinces and cities, with Hanoi reporting the most with 16,000. 

Provinces and cities with the most confirmed cases Tuesday are as follows: Hanoi (16,014), Phu Tho (5,920), Nghe An (4,820), Lao Cai (4,544), Hai Duong (4,219) and Bac Giang (3,949).

Since the beginning of the epidemic, Vietnam has 8,338,914 infections, ranking 14 out of 225 countries and territories.

The total number of deaths from COVID-19 in Vietnam so far is 42,014 cases, accounting for 0.5% of the total number of infections.

It was also announced today that Vietnam will issue electronic vaccine passports nationwide. 

According to Mr. Nguyen Ba Hung, Deputy Director of Health Data Center, Information Technology Department, Ministry of Health: Next week, the Health Data Center, Information Technology Department, Ministry of Health will hold a conference on providing training on how to issue electronic vaccine passports towards the implementation of the nationwide issuance of electronic vaccine passports. 

Previously, in December 2021, the Ministry of Health issued Decision No. 5772/QD-BYT on Promulgating the Form and the process of issuing the “Vaccine Passport”. After this decision, the Ministry of Health actively cooperated with the Ministry of Information and Communications and related agencies to build a vaccine passport certification system as well as modify and supplement the digital signature function on the vaccination management platform.
