One or more large tornadoes tore through the the New Orleans metro area Tuesday night, with many TV news outlets posting videos of twisters tearing through Arabi and the Lower 9th Ward.
Widespread damages and destruction have been reported in both areas, according to reports from Nola.com and WDSU-TV.
The first view of a large tornado came from WDSU traffic camera footage that was posted to Twitter.
Several other videos also were submitted to various newscasters and meteorologists in the New Orleans area, including Fox 8 and WWL-TV.
Nola.com photographer Sophia Germer posted photos of destruction live from the Arabi area.
The storm system responsible for producing the twister moved through the city at 45 mph and through Hancock and Pearl River counties. Both South Mississippi counties were under a tornado warning until 8:30 p.m.
At 9 p.m., strong winds and rain were reported in South Mississippi counties.
