Pope Francis calls for end to domestic violence in New Year’s message


Pope Francis has used his New Year’s message to issue a call for an end to violence against women – declaring it insulting to God.

The Pope celebrated mass in St Peter’s Basilica on the day the Catholic Church marked its annual World Day of Peace.

His homily focused on the themes of motherhood and women – using it make his strongest call yet for an end to domestic violence.
