Near-Whiteout Conditions in North Carolina as ‘Multi-Hazard Storm’ Hits Eastern States

North Carolina experienced several inches of snow, intense wind gusts, and heavy rain, as a multi-hazard storm system threatened the mid-Atlantic states on January 3, the National Weather Service (NWS) said. The NWS issued a winter storm warning for northwest parts of the state, where up to eight inches of snow were forecast. In central North Carolina, wind gusts were measured at close to 50 mph, while the NWS warned of thunderstorms, isolated tornadoes, and heavy rain. Flash flood warnings were issued in several areas.
