Too many “high achieving” lecturers are leaving the occupation whereas not sufficient are changing them – all beneath Scott Morrison’s watch, says shadow Education Minister Tanya Plibersek.
It comes as Labor unveils its plans to enhance training in Australia.
“The result of that is a continued slide in our international testing results,” Ms Plibersek mentioned at a media convention on Monday.
Ms Plibersek mentioned Labor has a plan to counter the “massive” instructor scarcity throughout the nation.
“First of all, by offering … up to 5,000 bursaries to attract those high achievers into teaching degrees,” she mentioned.
“Secondly by making it possible for career changes … to go from other areas where they are achieving professionally, going into teaching.
“Thirdly, to respond to elements of the Quality Initial Teacher Education Review.”
