Dollar General employee begins hearth as clients store: KY cops

Customers have been purchasing inside a Dollar General when one of many retailer staff went into the lavatory and set a hearth, Kentucky police mentioned.

Investigators mentioned she used paper towels to spark flames within the trash can, then she held it as much as the ceiling in hopes of igniting the ceiling tiles.

After 22-year-old Tailiyah N. Patterson set the hearth, authorities mentioned she known as her supervisor at about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 15. She reported smelling smoke contained in the Dollar General, in response to a Paducah Police Department information launch.

“The manager told Patterson to check the bathroom, and Patterson reportedly discovered a fire in the trash can,” police mentioned. Firefighters have been known as to extinguish the hearth, and a detective started investigating.

Investigators mentioned “the fire appeared to have been deliberately set,” and it broken the trash can and toilet ceiling tiles. Multiple clients have been inside on the time of the hearth.

Patterson admitted beginning the hearth and was arrested, police mentioned. She was booked into jail on a cost of first-degree arson.

Paducah is in western Kentucky, about 220 miles southwest of Louisville.
