A pair has shared how they turned to DIY to take their minds off a shock most cancers analysis – and constructed a sleek out of doors kitchen for simply £1,500.

Shaz and Martin Cooper, each 43 and from West Sussex, met at college when Shaz relocated to the UK from Malaysia.

‘During my treatment, Martin cooked a lot, and some of his specialities are BBQ and pizzas,’ says Shaz.

‘We actually like to have an area outdoor the place we are able to cook dinner so no mess is made in our primary kitchen.

‘We also love entertaining friends and family and since the pandemic hit right after my cancer treatments, we decided that an outdoor kitchen was a perfect addition to the house.’

The couple says that between spring to autumn, they use their new out of doors kitchen virtually each weekend.

‘We live on pizzas and BBQ during these months, and during winter since the kitchen area is covered it becomes our storage area for garden furniture,’ says Shaz.

The kitchen is made up of a small sink, a bbq area, a transportable pizza oven, and loads of workspace and storage.

It price the couple £1,500 to create, and took round three months of weekends to finish – however Shaz says that the pair has since gone on to tackle much more DIY since.

‘We actually felt a bit sad after we finished it because we really enjoyed the process, something we find very therapeutic,’ says Shaz.

‘But total, we have been actually happy with the outcome and have been wanting ahead to no extra flour mess within the kitchen each time Martin makes his pizza.

‘Our backyard is just not huge so we’re proud that we are able to nonetheless obtain this even with restricted area.

‘Other than the outdoor kitchen, we have turned our en suite bathroom and family bathroom into three rooms – small en suite, bathroom and home office – all with Martin’s intelligent DIY expertise and my design.

‘I’ve realized the right way to do tiling, and Martin gained new plumbing and flooring expertise. The subsequent tasks on our listing are our utility room and our driveway.’

The couple determined to begin sharing their DIY tasks on-line to maintain monitor of their progress.
