Covid blamed for delays to plan promising Irish nightlife revival

A plan promising a rebirth of Irish nightlife has been hit with delays.

Launched final September by Minister for Culture Catherine Martin, the plan promised to revive an Irish nightlife scene coping with hovering rents and the influence of the pandemic.

But some targets have already been missed, the Department of Culture has admitted.

It had been hoped that by the top of March, a scheme could be able to help cafe homeowners who need their venues to remain open later, with funding supplied for leisure.

That scheme shouldn’t be but in place, with plans as a substitute for it to launch within the springtime.

A spokesperson for the Department blamed the unfold of Covid-19 final December as the explanation for the delay to a few of the proposals contained within the report of the night-time economic system taskforce.

It comes because the Government confirmed that work has begun to permit nightclubs to stay open into the early hours of the morning as a part of a serious reform of Irish licensing legal guidelines.

Other plans which had been scheduled for early 2022 included the event of extra choices for alcohol-free actions in Ireland.

The spokesperson mentioned: “A working group was established in January this yr, to discover extra choices for alcohol free actions for the night-time economic system.

“The group is made up of representatives from Government, Give Us The Night, Dublin Town, dry bars and cafes.”

The spokesperson mentioned that the group will present contemporary suggestions “in due course”.

Plans to create and roll out coaching and consciousness elevating on accommodating folks with disabilities is underway, the division mentioned.
