Olive Hayes enlisted as a nurse in August 1914 aged 26 and sailed on the primary Convoy from Albany to Egypt. She was posted to Lemnos Island the place she handled the wounded diggers from the Gallipoli and later served on the Western Front the place she was confronted with surprising mass casualties from the bitter trench warfare. Olive’s inspiring story was depicted within the ABC drama collection Anzac Girls.
