MANILA, Philippines — Less than a week after parting ways with its longtime forward Arwind Santos, San Miguel Beer has dealt away another of its veteran stars in Alex Cabagnot.

In a stunning trade, the Beermen sent Cabagnot to the Terrafirma Dyip for Simon Enciso, the PBA said on its website Saturday.

Cabagnot, one of the best late-game players in the league, was a vital piece for the Beermen, a franchise he helped win nine titles in two separate stints.

The 38-year-old guard, the second overall pick by the defunct Sta. Lucia Realtors in the 2005 draft, was acquired by San Miguel from Burger King in 2010 and immediately made an impact for the club.

In his first campaign with San Miguel from 2010-2014, Cabagnot won his first PBA championship in the 2011 Governors’ Cup.

He was then traded to GlobalPort in 2014 but was quickly re-acquired by San Miguel the following season and went on to win eight more championships including five straight all-Filipino crowns.

Cabagnot averaged 12.3 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.8 assists for SMB in the last Philippine Cup where the Beermen got eliminated by eventual champion TNT in a seven-game semifinals series.

Enciso, 30, meanwhile, was just recently traded by Blackwater to Terrafirma last September 28 after coming off a career-best 13.7 points per game last conference.
